Frequently Asked Questions
Find all the questions on our page Q&A
Can you foil on waves ?
Of course !
A flat water is always easier for foilers.
Nevertheless, our foilers perform very well in swells and remain stable. It just requires a bit more technical skill.
How do you handle starts with foils ?
Birdyfish are handled just like traditional dinghies, but with foils !
With the foils raised, we use a beach trailer to launch the boat. The exception is the Birdyfish S, which has launch wheels built into the hull.
At what speed do we take off ?
Birdyfish take off in o knots of wind.
As for boat speed, the Ioda and the Birdyfish S start to take off at 6.5 knots, and the Birdyfish at 8 knots.
What is the sailing speed ?
It depends on several factors, but you'll generally be sailing at speeds between 15 and 20 knots.

They loved it
After mishandling it, I bent a fin on my Birdyfish, so I contacted technical support to request a replacement.
The process was very quick—I received the replacement in Switzerland within four days.
A big thank you to the whole team, and especially to Alban.

I am a customer of the Ioda leaving in Andora ... Up to now with 210 hours flying with the Ioda and I can confirm that the boat is fantastic and can fly in all conditions. That the waves makes this boat even more Fun

Finally got the chance to sail this little pocket rocket... and WOW, it's cool ! Super easy to get up on the foil, yet completely addictive trying to master it. Even managed a foiling gybe. Safe to say the learning curve is just a tad quicker than winging. Pretty incredible seeing learner sailors jump in the boat and start flying !

I love Birdyfish!! I competed as skipper on a Birdyfish in the Performance Regatta in Pensacola, FL in December 2025. This weekend was my 4th time sailing one. But it was my first time foiling alone on the Birdyfish S. I learned how to sail on a sunfish at my local sailing club in June of 2025. I have been sailing my sunfish almost daily since then. I can’t wait to sail the Birdyfish again! It was so much fun. I love the challenge of getting up on the foils in lower wind. And I love the feeling of flying over the water in high wind. The sound the foils make when you’re flying over the water is addictive.

“What a pleasure to be able to foil despite my advanced age on a reliable and easy boat! The big plus: being able to share these moments in complete safety, whatever the level of the crew member. Looking forward to next season”
Jean-Luc
“Addictive, flying on the water with this ease is simply brilliant. A sturdy boat, as easy to set up as a classic dinghy or catamaran. To try it is to adopt it. To date, I've sailed it 30 times, and even with beginner crew, it's a blast! I still haven't found the limits of this very accessible boat.”

“My BirdyFish is since June 6, 2023: 15 outings, 497km covered, to date 22 knots max, lots of fun, extraordinary flying sensations, the song of the foils in vibration, delighted crew members, it's accessible & fun.”
